This is one of Alfred Newman's Oscar nominations from 1937. I don't know if anything of the score survives. But if there's a chance there is, I'd like to suggest it.

Alas, you're probably already aware that most Golden Age scores (and composers) no longer sell so well. After acknowledging that, however, do you also know that the Pioneer Special Edition laser disc of THE HURRICANE included Newman's score isolated to one of the analog channels? I haven't listened to it in so long that I can't guess whether its sound is anywhere close to clean enough for a modern label to consider a CD release; but the typical malaise currently for 1930s scores offers you little hope.

By the way, an even more desirable Newman score was isolated on Pioneer's LD of WUTHERING HEIGHTS! (As I remember, only two cues there contained any sound effects, while the remainder was clean mono from the optical masters.)
