Forgive me. I have only seen bits and pieces of what may or may not be going on with this brilliant score - but I know it's in high demand, and I know why! A theatre out here in LA just screened the picture. And I (shamefacedly) only saw it for the first time last night. I know there are issues - but will someone please explain the history of Williams' masterpiece of a score - and just what exactly is keeping a complete release from fruition? Thanks in advance! |

Varese currently holds the license to release it - so no other label could work on it - and from reports, the only thing they've been able to uncover to expand it with is a bad-sounding mono source - unclear if its recording sessions, or just the music stem of the final film. Essentially, if that's still all that exists, Varese has 4 choices 1. Re-issue the OST program with no additional music, as an ENCORE 2. Re-issue the OST program, followed by mono bonus tracks of additional cues, as a Deluxe Edition 3. Make a 2CD set, with the OST program on one disc, and the complete mono source on the other, as a Deluxe Edition 4. Do nothing and hope a better source turns up at some point. Since Varese basically never discusses their intentions with the consumers all we can do is speculate. They have announced they're releasing 2 Club titles Monday at 10am, hopefully Dracula will be one of them - expanded or not. |

Thank you Jay. Too bad about the only source being a bad mono one. I would hope that at some point Intrada may release an expanded edition a la "Chinatown". Yes, we can always hope. |
