Lalo Schifrin has composed many great scores over his career. Some have become iconic whether for a TV series ("Mission: Impossible") or feature film ("Enter The Dragon"). Over the decades, many of his scores have been available to enjoy at home on records, tapes and CDs. That was either through the studio, a music production and distribution company or Schifrin's own label, Aleph Records. It was through Aleph Records that I was able to buy the most complete version of his score from the 1977 Universal movie "Rollercoaster." However, one of his most exciting scores has essentially never been released. That is the soundtrack from Universal's "The Concorde: Airport '79". I have to say essentially because there is a suite of music from the film has been released on CD. The CD set is "Lalo Schifrin: My Life In Music." This 4 CD set on Aleph Records is a compilation of his work in television and featured films. The 4th disc includes a 2007 concert performance of music from "The Concorde: Airport '79" which runs 5:53. To my knowledge, that is the only part of that movie's score that is available on CD. What I would like to see is the complete original soundtrack to that movie released on CD. I know that I am not alone in my desire to bring that music home and I know that it is not impossible. After all, Intrada was able to make a deal with Disney in order to make the release of the complete score from the 1979 film "The Black Hole" available. That is something I will cherish as long as I live. If deals can be made between all parties (Universal, Schifrin), my hope is that one day this will become a reality and Intrada might be able to help this process along.
