Considering that the Intrada Special Collection seems to be stepping up the release of programs originally appearing on LP, I'm surprised there hasn't been a CD transfer of this rather suspenseful score from the mid-60's. Coupling this with another Jones soundtrack from the same period on the Mercury label (THE SLENDER THREAD) would make a wonderful CD edition. (This would complement the Quincy Jones double released as a Verve CD 20 years ago, i.e. THE PAWNBROKER plus THE DEADLY AFFAIR.) Or has Universal Music lost the master tapes?

Actually, both MIRAGE and THE SLENDER THREAD were originally Mercury record releases, not surprising since Jones had been an A&R man with Mercury before moving into film scoring. ( I have no idea who has the rights to the Mercury catalogue these days.) Both were re-recordings with somewhat smaller orchestras and different orchestrations but caught the spirit of the originals quite well.

I'd just like to advise that the LP program for the above has been released as part of a Universal Music France box set THE CINEMA OF QUINCY JONES.
