I saw this movie not too long ago and thought it was a hilarious tribute to the Marx Brothers. As I read through blog reviews about the film, there were some surprising information. First, Brain Donors went through extra post-production as a result of Paramount being mad at the Zucker brothers (who produced) for planning to leave the studio for Fox. As a result, twenty minutes were cut out of the film, promotion was scrapped despite positive test screenings, and the movie had a very limited release in theaters. It was only years later when cinephiles noticed the film and it grew a cult following.

What is interesting is that most of Ira Newborn's score was removed from the film. Paramount hired Mark Mothersbaugh to compose the main theme along with some cues (both that have a "Rugrats" sound to them), probably to sell the film for kids. It would be great for Intrada to release Ira's score in full, along with Mark's contributions (like the release of the scores for 1981's Neighbors).

For those who don't remember, here is the film's title sequence, with Mark's main theme:

I would be all over this, especially if there's material not used in the film. It's a shame that the movie is basically a footnote in the filmmakers' careers - I'd love to hear about the making of it.

Perhaps La-La Land will make this available as part of their download deal with Paramount.
