My learned friend might be thinking of John Barry's demos for CLASH OF THE TITANS. I think a Barry score for THE RIGHT STUFF may have been recorded, as Conti only had a very limited time to compose his music. This suggests that time had already been allotted for the composition and recording of a score which went unused, as was mostly the case with Barry's work on THE GOLDEN CHILD. Of course there may be other reasons (such as the release date for the movie being moved up) but I understand Conti was a very late comer to the RIGHT STUFF creative team. |

It's all a mystery really. The truth is very mysterious. If Dan Wallin was the recording engineer for Conti's used score of THE RIGHT STUFF, he would probably be able to tell if any Barry cues had been recorded. (If any Barry material had been recorded, it would have been probable that Conti would have "inherited" the same engineer, as happened with Eric Tomlinson for Ron Goodwin's replacement music for BATTLE OF BRITAIN.) Interestingly at that time Wallin was Barry's regular recording engineer. |
