I'm a horror soundtrack fan (most recent purchase, James Horner's excellent Something Wicked This Way Comes) but amongst the uninspiring shrieks and noise explosions of so many recent film scores - designed to make the audience jump where the film cannot - one that stands out, even 12 years after its cinematic release, is Hans Zimmer's score for the remake of The Ring.
The combination of piano, violin and cello comes together to form a beautiful, haunting piece that actually creates themes which stay long after the film has ended. I did get the 2005 The Ring/The Ring 2 OST, and the first eight tracks are excellent (less so the last four tracks, from The Ring 2) but there's so much more from that first movie that hasn't been released. Of all the scores I'd love to own, this is at the top of my list. What does anyone else think?
