Laurence Rosenthal's ROOSTER COGBURN - CD release?

Laurence Rosenthal's Western score to John Wayne's
ROOSTER COGBURN (AND THE LADY) is a really great one - it's on the same level
as Elmer Bernstein's best scores for the Duke.

Rosenthal's ROOSTER COGBURN score desperately needs a CD release.
As it is Universal there might be a chance of a CD release via Intrada
or LaLaLand ...

Especially as his other marvellous 1978 score to BRASS TARGET was released
by the Varese Sarabande CD Club recently.

I really do not hope that the Master tapes fell victim to the fire at
Universal same years ago.

What do you think about Rosenthal's great Western score?

This is oft-requested here, and for good reason.

People mention the Universal fire a lot, but Roger flat out said that no music properties are known to have been destroyed in the blaze.

With all of those beautiful sounding 60s and 70s Universal theatrical film score releases that we do have from Intrada and Varese, I have no reason to doubt that we'll get the same with Rooster Cogburn.

I'm beginning to think there are some problems with this score, the rights, the recordings? This is such a great score!

Here's the Main Title, the beginning is missing unfortunately but it's not the rather lame re-recording which is also on YouTube

Doug or Roger, please comment on this wonderful score and its possibilities of appearing on a CD someday soon. Please give us some hope. Even a word like "patience" would be encouraging.

Alright, it's time to make this happen. How can we convince the esteemed Mike Knobloch to up the release of stunning scores such as Rooster Cogburn?

I know that there are so many scores that Intrada can do only at a reasonable rate of time. ROOSTER COGBURN is really extra-special. Intrada has always had a good working relationship with Laurence Rosenthal. Universal is real slow when it comes to approval. Is there any problem because ROOSTER COGBURN, although a Universal release , was produced by Hal Wallis? What is holding up this score from being released? Is it just a matter of patience on our part ?

This is perhaps the last unreleased truly great western score now Tadlow is doing Duel in the Sun.

A simple "yes" or "no" if Cogburn is a possibility at all would be great. Doug!? :wink:
