I just watched "The Getaway" the other night and I was reminded on how much I loved Quincy Jones' score to it and I hope somebody will release it sometime in the near future. If the masters are gone, find some other way but it ought to be released. The Slender Thread, The Lost Man, Mirage, and In Cold Blood would be great releases to. |

I think Lukas Kendall said the tapes for Getaway have not survived. Don't know if something could be released using the m&e tracks. There have been nice examples over the last years for this. |

I think I did read somewhere that the masters for "The Getaway" were no longer around. Surely they can take it from the film stem though like they've done with so many other scores. I forgot to mention Jones' score to "The Anderson Tapes". |

I can't believe a guy like Q wouldn't have tapes to all his scores. I just can't accept it. ![]() |

Even if he does have all of his tapes archived for whatever reason, I imagine that releasing older and now obscure score albums is something he has extremely little to no interest in these days. I'm sure he happily collects royalties from these pitiful "rappers" sampling his music, but older film score albums seems like something he wouldn't want to be bothered by. We do need more of his scores on CD, though. MacKenna's Gold, The Lost Man and In Cold Blood would be especially fantastic. |

I told this story years ago in another thread here; but in 1973, Mr. Jones traveled the USA making publicized appearances in record stores to promote a new album. When he visited my favorite Chicago store, I waited in a long line of fans for handshakes and autographs. At my turn, he greeted me before looking down at my LPs of IN COLD BLOOD and MACKENNA'S GOLD and exclaimed: "Hey, a movie man!" (I've always figured he wasn't accustomed to young black men collecting soundtrack albums.) Behind me was still a healthy number of people awaiting their turns, so I told him quickly that I was sorry to have left many more of his records back at school, because I was just home on summer break. But I had to ask him why there hadn't been an LP for THE GETAWAY (since I knew the film had made money). He looked off for a few seconds and said something like "Yeah, they never did bring that out, did they?," adding that you can never tell what a record label thinks they'll make money with. When I saw him looking over my shoulder at the line of people still to come, I recognized that my time was done -- so I took my signed albums with a happy handshake and exited. But in case the GETAWAY masters really are gone, there was at least a nice, stereo 45rpm single of the love theme released at the time. (I got a copy on eBay about 12 years ago from a seller in France.) |

Jones' scores to $ (DOLLARS) and THE HOT ROCK also warrant mentions here. |
