Last night I watched Blind Terror on VHS. To my shock I see that Elmer Bernstein's great score hasn't been released on CD? Or has it? Does anyone know whether this film score by Bernstein got a release on LP or not? I fancy hearing the full, complete score myself. Who owns the rights to this score? I heard in the past that Varese were going to release a club limited edition, but the CD release never appeared. It's another soundtrack mystery... |

Nothing has been released for this score. Columbia Pictures seems to be the film's primary production company and distributor. Unfortunately, surviving master elements of older scores from that studio seems to be a bit of a rarity. But, you never know in this case. Older scores (70s and prior) from the studio that have been released were sometimes released via album tapes possessed by the music label that owns the rights to an original LP release, or through elements located at someone's estate. When older elements are found at the studio, I believe they are very often in mono if that matters. The Bernstein estate has been a source of copies for some other scores, so I suppose there's a small chance of something existing there. I have no doubt that at least one label checked by now if they had to, as those guys always seem to be on the ball about these things. |

It would be interesting to hear what Andre Previn's rejected score sounded like. (I suspect it may have been rejected for similar reasons as was Mancini's for FRENZY.) |

I'd immediately buy a CD release of Elmer's score for this film. |
