Scrooge (1951), re-titled A Christmas Carol in the U.S., starring Alastair Sim as Scrooge and Mervyn Johns and Hermione Baddeley as the Cratchits. According to critic A. O. Scott of The New York Times, this film is the best one ever made of this Dickens classic. It would make for an amazing film score by Intrada, and would most likely prove to be quite popular and profitable. It would appeal to many generations of people and the score itself is truly remarkable as well as deeply haunting! Don't forget to vote in my poll question too. Thanks. |

Yes, I would love to see this score released as well. I wonder if the original music has survived or would it have to be released as a re-recording? On a personal note my favorite version of "A Christmas Carol" is the version starring George C. Scott. I'm so glad the score is available through the composers website but it to needs an official cd release. |

I've posted "yes" to this poll but I don't think it's ever going to happen because I don't think it's commercial enough. Richard Addinsell, fine composer he may be but unfortunately he is not 'name'. The other reason is that this was, of course, a very British film and Films made in England at this time were strictly utilitarian, British films for British audiences therefore music masters were unlikely to be kept. There is a huge wealth of great scores from this period that are destined never to be heard on their own. John Addisons' fabulous score to Reach For The Sky for instance or School For Scoundrels. Not forgetting all the great Ealing comedies. Telarc did release in 1988 an LP (and later CD) a 14 minute suite from A Christmas Carol coupled with a 10 minute suite from Cyril Mockridges (another fine overlooked composer) Miracle on 34th Street and 40 minutes from Dimitri Tiomkins' It's A Wonderful Life. It's worth checking this out if you can get a copy but I think that this is all that will ever be available. |

Why do people always bring up the Talarc disc and never mention the same suite on the Chandos and ASV labels? |
