Now that METEOR is going to be released by Intrada and knowing that Laurence Rosenthal is a good friend of Intrada, can a release of Universal's ROOSTER COGBURN be too far behind ?

I hope so. It's my most wanted Rosenthal premiere. Unlike the situation with Bernstein's True Grit, one can reasonably expect a beautiful sounding stereo album for this score.

When "The Shootist" was released by the La La Land Label last year I emailed them to let them know who much I liked it. I also included a small list of western scores I would love to see released in the future. They replied, saying the one western they would really like to release someday was "Rooster Cogburn". So let's keep our fingers crossed.

The problem there is Lalaland does not have a relationship with Universal whereas Intrada does.

Yes, 1941 is the only classic Universal title I can think of that La-La Land has been able to release so far. I also recall LLL recently saying that they've been rejected by Universal with respect to an album that they and Sony Music really wanted to do.

From an outsider's perspective, Universal appears extremely selective in who they work with and what projects they allow to work on. That said, we are very fortunate that they are allowing some great stuff get released from time to time and that their music elements have been handled well over the years.
