I've always said that Starstruck (directed by Gillian Armstrong) is the best new-wave musical to come out of Australia in 1982. And even if there were more (or any) competition, I maintain that this would still be true. The soundtrack is pure early-80s pop, and I mean that in the best possible way. It's fun and energetic and has a down-under quirkiness that is really engaging. It still sounds fresh all these years later, mostly because so little of the music has been heard in the United States. A lot of the acts on the soundtrack were pretty well known in Australia, including Split Enz, Mental as Anything, and The Swingers. The soundtrack was released many years ago on vinyl and cassette, but never CD, any maybe never on any format in this country. I'd love to see this get a re-release, especially on CD.

Long shot that Intrada might get around to it. Speaking of Australian films, I'd lke to see a release of the Peter Best score for Peterson starring Jack Thompson. Probably one of the worst films to come out of any country but the music by Crocodile Dundee composer Best is the best thing about it.

Yeah, I figured it was a longshot. Any 30-year-old soundtrack on a possibly defunct, foreign record label is always going to be a pipe dream.

I never saw Peterson. It's a shame to hear that Jack Thompson was wasted on a bad movie. I definitely agree that sometimes the score is the best thing about a film. Probably true about Starstruck as well.
