Post subject: | Need advice on Georges Delerue |
Hey everyone, I've been looking into the realm of composers that I wish to expand my collection with, and Georges Delerue seems to have my attention the most at the moment. So, what I wish to ask is, does anyone have any recommendations for Delerue scores I should have a listen? Also, this is a list of how many Delerue scores I have in mind to find one day for now: 1. Agnes of God 2. Black Robe 3. The Black Stallion Returns 4. The Day of the Dolphin 5. Exposed 6. Joe Versus the Volcano 7. Maxie 8. Memories of Me 9. Rapture 10. Something Wicked This Way Comes (rejected score) Thank you all for taking time to read this topic. -Chris |

You've pretty much mentioned all of my favorite Delerue scores. I would add Silkwood, Crimes of the Heart, A Show of Force, L'Incorrigible, A Summer Story, Steel Magnolias, and the rejected Regarding Henry score to the list. |

While you can still find them, I recommend you go for the limited releases VIVA MARIA/KING OF HEARTS (Masters Film Music / Varese Sarabande CD Club); OUR MOTHER'S HOUSE/THE 25TH HOUR (FSM); and my personal favorite Delerue: THE ESCAPE ARTIST (Percepto). All this, of course, is before Maleficio gets in here with his substantially longer list of required Delerue titles! |

I'd recommend L'AFRICAIN, LE BON PLAISIR and WOMEN IN LOVE -- all from European labels recently released, though the last one is now harder to find,. There are several other Universal France CDs with many Delerue scores that continue to be available and at very reasonable prices... |

There have been some great ones already mentioned. Here are some others I would recommend. That Man From Rio Thibaud An Almost Perfect Affair A Little Romance The Borgias True Confessions The Pick-Up Artist |

I forgot to mention L'Africain, which Shureman recommended. That is definitely a must have Delerue score in my opinion, and the recording sounds spectacular. |

And I'm amazed that I didn't think to include the sublime TRUE CONFESSIONS. Here's another enthusiastic vote for that one. You've received a lot of terrific suggestions so far, Chris -- may you have time and money to follow up on them all. (I'm now motivated to try L'AFRICAIN myself!) |

What is this? A Delerue thread I have nothing to do with. ![]() Plenty of great recommendations but be aware that there are also many great Delerue scores that have yet to be released! |

I recommend all of the ones that have already been listed. I would also recommend two others. Le Conformist (The Conformist) and Curly Sue (If you can find it). Curly Sue is out of print but it's worth it if you can get ahold of it. |

Alrighty ladies and gents, I am proud to announce that I finally own two Delerue scores! The first is Exposed which I bought off of eBay for $20, and I just purchased a copy of Man, Woman and Child from Intrada here (even after it has sold out at Quartet Records webpage). ^^ |

I've yet to hear "Exposed" but "Man, Woman and Child" is great. You should get "Agnes of God" and "Curly Sue" if you can find them. |

May I also suggest "The Conformist" and "Black Robe"? |
