This week I took a listen to a LP transfer
of Billy Goldenberg's THE GRASSHOPPER.
What a delight to listen to!

And in the same time I became fully aware of
the sheer ignorance and underrepresentation of his work
on CD (and even LP, with only THE GRASSHOPPER, RED SKY AT MORNING
and THE DOMINO PRINCIPLE released).

He composed so much incredible innovative and intelligently orchestrated
music for mainly Universal and other studios (mostly for Television but also
some movies). In TV he often integrated some synthesized sounds and rythms
("flikkering" sounds) into his orchestrations to enhance the small orchestra.
Very innovative - and in some way the same philosophy Jerry Goldsmith brought
into his music.

He wrote great original music (incidental music) for the COLUMBO First Season
(he shared the assignment with Gil Melle) which should be released on CD.
A few episodes in MANNIX' later Seasons have also some great incidental music by Goldenberg.

I really hope that Billy Goldenberg will no longer be overseen and will get more of his
music work for TV released on CD.
Maybe Intrada who have access to the Universal vaults can rectify this in
the not too far future and release some Billy Goldenberg?

I really really would appreciate this ...

He is one composer that I've been hoping would get more attention from the labels. Aside from High Risk, Busting, Around the World in 80 Days and his work for Amazing Stories, I don't think anything else of Goldenberg's vast output has been released on CD.

It's a shame that Kritzerland's release of Busting apparently didn't sell well.

I could name sooo many scores by Goldenberg worthy of a CD release. High Risk had a chance to get released as part of that TV box . Otherwise I see only a chance for Columbo to see a release on CD in the future - hopefully.

And besides his great episode scores for the first COLUMBO Season
he wrote also a marvellous main theme and superb incidental music
for the BANACEK TV Series starring George Peppard.
Not to mention his main theme for the KOJAK TV Series - in the 70ies
he really was the best composer for television (mainly Universal)!

Intrada maybe will be able to release a Billy Goldenberg CD with his
most important TV scores for Universal in not too far future - they must be in the vault!

I'm down for any Goldenberg that Intrada (or anybody else) would care to gift us with. There's a great 2 CD set in his very first Universal score for 1968's FEAR NO EVIL paired with the followup film, RITUAL OF EVIL. It's amazing that Goldenberg burst on the scene with FEAR NO EVIL with his signature style immediately in full flower.

Check out his output at IMDB from '69 through about '85--the guy makes Desplat look like a slacker! In 1975 alone he worked on 13 different TV movies and series.
