After I replied to another thread's mention of this Jerry Goldsmith score for THE MAN (a 1972 TV film produced for ABC-TV but sent out for an unspectacular theatrical release, after which it ended up on TV again anyway), an idea occurred to me.

I pointed out in that other thread that THE MAN -- or at least what underscore is actually heard in the film -- is too brief to issue on a CD by itself. But since the movie dealt with James Earl Jones becoming the USA's first black president in 1972 and its long-ago theatrical distribution was handled by Paramount, how about a single CD combining Goldsmith's dramatic THE MAN with Lalo Schifrin's comic and more eclectic score for Paramount's THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST? (If masters survive for both.)

How many other buyers here would stand up and salute?

Personally I'd prefer it get paired with any other available Goldsmith at Paramount. Maybe the original recording of Seven Days in May, with the rejected score to fill out the disc?

I'll support whatever it takes to get Schifrin's The President's Analyst released and made sellable to the general collector. So, yes, I salute this proposed release.

The President's Analyst is a great score, full of Schifrin's trademarks!

I'd just love The President's Analyst, but arn't the tapes suppost to be missing? But things do turn up, so I suppose it's a case of wait & hope. I'd also like a great looking Blu-ray, I think it could be James Coburn's best movie.

I have never heard of the ANALYST score being missing; but since Paramount had lost track of the masters for IN HARM'S WAY and ISLANDS IN THE STREAM, it doesn't surprise me.

And yes, ANALYST is a terrific-looking movie, Alan -- beautifully photographed by William A. Fraker, with original-release Technicolor prints that were/are gorgeous. While I would not call it James Coburn's best film, I do retain an enduring love for it -- partly because I spent years working for the ... ah, American corporation so well lampooned by the picture. (I don't identify it here out of respect for surprise revelations.) I also like to avoid "name dropping," but at a 1981 film festival I got to ask Coburn in private conversation whether he personally liked THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST. The question surprised him, but he said "Yes ... yes, I do."

It's not a big deal, but so many stars are dismissive of some of their past projects that I'm pleased when an actor I like is happy with a film which I also like. (And the same goes for directors, composers, and screenwriters, too.)

The President of the analyst is a satirical comedy film written in 1967 and Theodore J. Flicker, with James Coburn in. The big screen cinema was by William A. Fraker, and Lalo Schifrin provided the soundtrack. The film has elements of science fiction and political satire, and like a lot of spy parodies that have increased in the mid 60s in the James Bond phenomenon, including Coburn Our Man Flint and In Like Flint.
