Though the original MCA soundtrack album had a generous playing time of just under 69 minutes, I think there may be at least another 20 minutes of unreleased music. Though not quite up to the lofty standards of the composer's earlier WYATT EARP, this score for chorus and orchestra impresses, even in its moments of repose. It would be interesting to know how much time the composer had to score this because the movie's trailer credits Mark Isham. (Though of course the "Music Box" theme is credited to Isham, and he himself says he was never involved with the scoring, there are claims in other quarters that he did write a whole score which was rejected!) If Newton Howard's involvement was late in the project (as was Goldsmith's for CHINATOWN and THE RIVER WILD, to name a few) it would have been the usual 18 hour days, I imagine, to get the task completed in time!
