Caught this last night on netflix and really enjoyed it, a well written, well acted film, I'm a Leadbelly fan anyway, and while the performer's voice couldn't ever truly compare to the original, the songs in the movie are very well done, and the Fred Karlin score serves the highly dramatic story beautifully.
Considering the recent release of Bound for Glory it seemed to me like all this great music could warrant a similar cd treatment. I found the main and end titles particularly haunting, a slow drawling acapella overlayed with a rising tension from Karlin, a piece I would love to have on disc.
