In light of the recent release of the lovely "The Last Tycoon," here's hoping the other major Fitzgerald score from a 70s Paramount picture sees CD release soon.
Nelson Riddle's arrangements of the songs of the time are marvelous, charming, and evocative - and his underscoring is both instantly recognizable as Riddle, and very well suited to the film. The way he manages to weave Berlin's "What'll I Do?" throughout his own material is really a marvel, too.
I have the double-LP set, and I don't remember if there's anything left off of it - but, I would be delighted with a reissue or expansion of this great, Academy-Award winning score!
