It would be one of the greatest treasures to all soundtrack collectors is somebody would release John Williams complete score to the 1979 version of "Dracula". I count that as one of his best scores not to mention one of the greatest scores ever written. I own the Varese Sarabande CD version of the orignal soundtrack which cost an arm and a leg to get these days. It's great but it's not complete. Seeing the movie I hear music in it that I love but it's not on the orignal release of the score. This release should be a must. |

It is my understanding that the MCA album (later issued by Varese) is a re-recording. A 2-disc set containing both the complete original recording and the album presentation with a modern transfer and mastering would be nice. This is certainly in Intrada's territory given their connections with UMG and Universal Pictures. Roger recently mentioned that no John Williams titles are currently in the works, so I wouldn't hold my breath at this point. That said, Intrada has so far picked up nothing but prime choices when it comes to licensing scores previously released on the MCA Records label. |

Roger said there were none for the birthday celebration, after being asked about it. Nothing in his reply indicated there were no Williams releases period coming. I thought I read the tapes were missing for the original score. |

You're right, I misremembered the context of which his comment about John Williams projects was based on. |

I don't think the original soundtrack release is a re-recording because it sounds exactly as it does in the film. I'd know if it was a re-recording. The tapes for the original score better be around somewhere. They can't just have vanished. At least I hope not. Williams must know where they are. |

It is a possibility. I know that other John Williams scores released by Universal have been re-recordings. The Eiger Sanction and Earthquake being a two of them. I wouldn't mind having a re-issue of The Eiger Sanction. |

I just recently watched the movie (again... it has lost none of it's charm). The only thing I can say, John Williams' music is absolutely superb. From it's central theme, to it's full throttle horror... not to mention it's beautiful love theme. One day. I hope. |

If it's lost (which I hope it isn't) it would be fine to get this one at least as a re-recording. Anything BUT ROZSA for a change would be kind of nice! |

Well, CONAN THE BARBARIAN was thought to be lost at one time... I also agree with redot64 that the film itself is tremendously (almost criminally) underrated. Frank Langella's performance is first rate, and the score is really one of John Williams' finest. |

Well, Witches don't take themselves too seriously and while they have some fine moments, they are imho not on the level of the other two. Hopefully DRACULA will get release he deserves. Unless it is somehow complicated by previous release of the score on Varese. I stiill think that the original MCA release was a re-recording sometimes lacking punch of the original (especially opening piece is far less impressive than I remembered from the movie), if it is, there shouldn't be any problem to release the full score (see Masada). It would a shame if this was lost. |
