Given the increasing popularity of vinyl....there are more and more labels popping up who are releasing film soundtracks exclusively on vinyl. I think Intrada should consider doing small run releases of their most commercially successful scores. I am a collector of vinyl and over the past 3 years I have seen the price go up significantly. There is good money to be made in vinyl now.....even on 200-500 runs. Cost of manufacturing on 180g + gatefold + shrinkwrapping is around £4 per unit. You sell for £30 and your making a decent profit. If you've already recouped your studio/production costs through the sales of the CD release....then its a no brainer. If your're not prepared to do it yourselves...would you consider liscensing the material out to someone who can? Thanks, Jago |

Vinyl is not my thing (high resolution DVD or BD-Audio would be my niche format of choice), but it has certainly gained quite the renewed interest as of late. Intrada's releases of scores from the 50s through the 80s would be right at home on vinyl for those into the nostalgic aspect. Heck, Intrada could get even more stylized and bring back the concept of promo 45 singles for those who buy into "vinyl club" membership.

As a vinyl collector, I've noticed that old vinyl soundtracks go for a lot cheaper on e-bay than their equivalent cd releases. I've been buying a lot of stuff that is way overpriced on cd (recently I picked up Kamen's Munchausen for about eight euro), but I wonder does it mean that soundtrack collectors generally don't accommodate that format any more? And are the soundtracks that get record releases nowadays more for the hipster vinyl crowd? Certainly the ones I've noticed in stores have all had a pop-culture appeal to them, you know, blaxploitation stuff and so on. |

USB turntables have brought vinyl recordings into retro-vogue. Old school LP enthuthiasts never lost interest. I have a few of the early Intrada LPs. First one I bought was Extreme Prejudice sealed in a discount bin for 99 cents at some music store in Ohio. I wouldn't see the point in Intrada reviving their vinyl format, although some of the short scores like Andromeda Strain and The Organization, both clocking in under 30 minutes total would be nice to see on wax. |

Interestingly there have been some surprising LP editions on 180 Gram vinyl, which I never thought would be released in a high grade format: THE HEROES OF TELEMARK by Malcolm Arnold, ONE EYED JACKS by Hugo Friedhofer and SPARTACUS by Alex North are recent examples. Vinyl isn't dead but as far as the vast majority of "serious" soundtrack collectors are concerned, it might as well be! |
