I believe Giorgio Moroder's best work is the moody and atmospheric, Cat People (1982). The Cat People soundtrack deserves a re-release and if possible, an expanded 2 disc CD. Some of the music used in the movie was not available on the original release and some of the few tracks that were released had the music reworked and this bothers me a great deal. THEY ARE NOT THE MOVIE VERSIONS. "Irena's Theme," is an excellent example of this. The soundtrack's most appealing track David Bowie's vocal "Theme from Cat People" which I'm not familiar with because it wasn't during my time, but seems to be a favorite with fans who know this movie. I heard it first time and thoroughly enjoyed it but other music used in the film are suprisingly underated and should be highlighted. What's amazing is that the the soundtrack has one of the most striking and mysterious sounding synths I've ever heard (refering to "Irena's Theme," through out the film) and would love if a proper release will happen. I think the most important aspect which stood out from the film is undoubtedly the haunting score. The music that accompanies the part where Irena is walking around, searching for her brother is just some of the most breathtaking, uplifting and Electrifying synth, I have ever heard. Don't take my word for it... If you happen to have a copy of the film, forward to that part and turn the volume up and listen for yourself. A re-release with the entire, complete movie score as heard in the film is a definate, must. |

Moroder did seem to love using different recordings and blatant remixes for CD releases. I think the score recordings on the current Cat People CD sound great, but I would definitely appreciate a release of the complete film tracks. |

He definately had a practice of doing it to many of his other soundtrack releases. There has to be another release with the complete score as I believe the current release is overrated and wanting more. |

Though I have never been a fan of the composer... I do really love the score for Cat People. Stylish. Dark. Very moody. Plus, I love the David Bowie song. A more complete release to what ended up in the film would be most welcome. Plus, it is 30 years old this year... Eek. Time flies... |
