This set by Jan Hammer was released in short quantities several years ago. You can get it on Amazon's mp3 downloads, but not iTunes. There are a few copies floating around that are asking several hundred dollars. Anyone here like to see a re-issue? I would! |

Most the track were re-recordings. I would like to see a 2CD set of original tracks, in a better presentation. But, since Tim Truman said Universal nixed his release, I wouldn't count on it unless it's re-recordings again from either of the show's three composers. |

I had no idea that the 2-disc set was mostly re-recordings. Another comprehensive release of the Miami Vice television scores would be greatly appreciated. |

Jan Hammer has tended not to issue the exact cues used during the Miami Vice episodes. Instead, he usually massages them a little, or edits two cues into one. In most of the cases, you can still hear the cues as heard on the show with a minimum of embellishment. The Complete Collection CD release was a 2 disc affair, with the first disc being a compilation of the cues previously made available on the 3 Miami Vice song & score compilations, as well as additional cues from the "Escape from Television" and "Snapshots" collections. The second disc was the real find - it was a collection of unreleased cues, again re-edited and remixed by Hammer with some new instrumentation. For the most part - about 95% of that 2nd disc - it was a welcome gift of around 20 cues that mostly still hold up. (There were a few cues on the disc that had been released as promos here and there but you had to really be on your toes to have found those.) There are still fans like myself who would really like to see another Miami Vice score release with another 20+ cues that Hammer chose not to include ten years ago. But we should keep in mind that Hammer said at that time that these were the cues he felt held up best and worked best as instrumentals on their own. (His remixing is always intended to essentially turn every cue into its own song with a beginning, middle and end.) He said at that time that the other cues were likely just wanted by hardcore Miami Vice fans who would want every cue he wrote for the show - and to be fair, he was right. Some of the withheld cues are really just mood pieces and motifs for synthesizer that only go for less than a minute. If Jan Hammer or Universal were to release further music from the Miami Vice score library, I'd be first in line to buy it. But the last we heard of this idea was the "Best of Miami Vice" compilation a few years ago where Hammer included some of the 2nd disc material and then added remixes of the two most popular themes and one cue he was never able to use on the show. |

It would be great a world premiere score from the tv serie ... Jan Hammer has a very good style in electronic music. |
