With the release of The Black Hole, I wonder if John Barry's other 1979 score has been recovered for expansions? The current soundtrack is only 10 tracks long, but I've heard the parts of the original masters were lost somewhere near Paris, France? Does anyone know anything of this? |

"The tapes are lost, the tapes are lost!" - this is what one gets told whenever this subject comes up. But still... Intrada could find them - just like they found the CONAN tapes? And while we´re at it: what about the other incomplete Bond scores? |

I would love a complete release to "Moonraker" and other John Barry's James Bond scores. If the tapes are lost "Look for them!". They can't just have vanished. That's how I feel about it. There is always the alternative to taking the score from the soundtrack on the film stem. That's been done a couple of times. |

Well, you see -- not speaking of this score's tapes -- sometimes studios would litterally throw away tapes to make room. They would also record over tapes as well to save cash. Sometimes recording studios that housed tapes would go under and shut and the stuff would be tossed (that's right, every single film score they got) unless the composer came and claimed them. And of course there was one overseas one that was flooded, that ended up destroying one Barry score (that we know of -- no full listof loses for that location has been given). So, yes, they can just vanish sometimes. Also, though very rare (so far as I have read or been told), they're simply stolen. Then of course over time the person who stole them, moves and loses them; tosses them because they can't save them any longer; sells them for money; house burns down/gets flooded/hurriance; or they die and either the people who inherit it, have no idea and trash it, or there is nobody who inherits. I'm a fudging ray of sunshine. |
