There's obviously a big void which needs to be filled here. MCA never released this on CD, and the Japanese edition is unutterably expensive. Would Universal Music still have the rights? |

A GodAwful movie. A grand, epic score. I still have the MCA Lp (which suprisingly has the old Varese letter prefix scratched into it STV- cannot remember the number right now...) and cassette. Also have the Japanese import. Memory serves correctly, the score is wall to wall. It has been 25 years... I too would jump at a chance for an expanded release to this magnificent score. |

A very fine score, a good follow-up to John Barry's KING KONG ('76) score. ORDERED! ![]() ![]() |

I vote for BARRY KK-76 first (complete, 2-CD set). And after this - John Scott will be welcome ![]() |

I used to get a k7 player in my car and I had KING KONG LIVES on tape. I played it over and over during winter 99, driving through county under the snow. Loved this time, still love this great score. Just don't think about the movie ! ![]() |

I seriously consider this one of the best action-adventure scores of the 80's. The main theme is utterly gorgeous, and that action music - holy crap! I'm sure I'll be ostracized for saying this, but as far as I'm concerned this scores makes the action music Goldsmith was writing around this time seems utterly daft and flimsy by comparison. KKL is a stunning achievement. I'd love to have an expanded and remastered version. In particular, I find it rather annoying that the utterly brilliant end title cue is shorter on album than it was in the film, and that on album you can barely here those amazing swirling woodwinds under the lush, string-led renditions of the main theme during said cue (Ironically, you can hear more nuances of the music in the film than you can on album). John Scott orchestrates all his own scores, from what I understand, and it shows. The music is amazingly detailed and varied. Whoever said this score was 'in a category all its own' was absolutely spot-on! Here's the finale and end title music. Brilliant stuff! |

I'll cast a vote for this. Great score. I've been listening to the suite on John Scott's Concerts For Adventure CD set. A friend of mine transferred the cassette program to CD for me but screwed it up, so I only got the first 7 tracks, which are repeated on the next seven tracks. Oy! |
