Only previously released on the Island label on the UK in LP and cassette, this features a soaring, triumphant score by Carl Davis for a film that tells the true story of Bob Champion's successful battle against cancer and horse Aldaniti's recovery from a broken leg to win the 1981 Grand National. Never yet released on CD. If you need any persuasion, try They don't write main themes like that any more. It's just amazing that this score hasn't yet been re-released on CD. I hope the masters still exist...? The rest of the film is available on YouTube. |

There were a couple tracks from Champions recorded on a compilation on Naxos a few years back. I bought them from eMusic myself. Utterly fantastic theme indeed, as well as the track 'Grand National" recorded on it too. |

HELL YES!!! I LOVE this score. Davis is a wonderful and vastly underrated composer. Check out his title theme from the multi-part HOLLYWOOD doc he did in the early 80's (the main theme is available on several compilations of Davis'). Really wonderful, wonderful romantic writing. What parts I've heard of FAR PAVILIONS and THE FRENCH LIEUTENANT'S WIFE were also fantastic. |
