I remember a day when Roger made us a tricky joke in announcing the soundtrack of Benji. I didn't immediately think of the Oscar nominated music for the first 70's movie (though very good and already digitally released by from the original LP), but I was rather thinking of the fantastic score of the beloved 80's wild adventure movie produced by Disney, Benji The Hunted. Mulberry Square is unable to obtain the rights for the score (Disney is the owner), but the composer is the same, the Box tandem (Euel & Betty) and the score remains completely unreleased to this day. I had been watching the movie at least 3 times in the theaters back in 1987, and the music surely stuck with me ! Here are some extracts taken from the DVD, showing what a wonderful CD this would be for Intrada. There must be around 1 hour of music + the main theme song "So Many Yesterdays" sung by Guy Hovis. The movie being without any dialogue for 90 min, the music plays a big part in the picture. The score reminds me of the best parts of Romancing the Stone (Alan Silvestri) and Big (Howard Shore) and would eventually influence later the tone of a well known score for a similar Disney movie : Homeward Bound (Bruce Broughton). The score consists of orchestral sweet melodies sometimes with a sweeping guitar, and action climatic moments, always pure 80's flavor... To listen, go . Enjoy ! ^^ |

Love that poster. I have the two Benji Lps. I'd definitely be interested in a score release of Benji The Hunted. Love that little rascal. The original "Benji" dog has roles in Green Acres, Petticoat Junction and a lot of other assorted television nonsense. |

I have a soft spot for dog films and their scores and this one I could enjoy. Poking around a used record store awhile back I momentarily thought I found a score LP to this third Benji film. It was a dialog LP of the first film with a different cover design. It ain't Gone With The Wind but it has it's moments. Not sure if Intrada could sell anymore than 2 copies but who knows? Lots of people are suckers for the four footed warm and fuzzies. |
