I can't vouch for the authenticity of the report, but I've gleaned that Quincy Jones had 3 days to write a replacement score after the producers jettisoned the Don Ellis original. I have no idea what it sounds like, but would not be surprised if it's kindred to the composer's jagged scores for the two FRENCH CONNECTION movies and THE SEVEN-UPs. Yes, I'm aware this is a Columbia Pictures release (so the odds of finding materials are not enhanced). Quincy Jones has cited his experiences writing very short notice scores for this movie, and THE GETAWAY, as contributing strongly to his decision to move largely away from scoring for the cinema.
