This is one of the best scores Hans Zimmer has ever composed. I personally did not know that he could write big band jazz with a real orchestra, but it sure is a pleasant surprise. |

LOL That's because he didn't!!!! That was Shirley Walker's influence and ghostwriting which alot of Zimmer's earliest scores here in the U.S. had. Zimmer can do some jazz as evidenced a bit in his replacement score for Regarding Henry, but definitely not traditional. Walker had experience in doing that type of score and it shows in her orchestrations for it. Other than that, it's overdue for an expansion. It's missing 45 min. I have the complete unmentionable and it's fantastic. Great stuff.

I would also like to mention Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron. I know there may be some dislike for it because it's got quite some synths, but IMO the integration of synths and orchestra is very well done. It works great in the film and a nice listening experience too. There are some very good pieces missing on the OST so an expanded release would be great (it was released by A&M Records, so I think the music rights lie with Universal). |
