The Black Marble is a lovely romantic comedy that has become a cult movie, after an initial release that was overlooked by both audiences and most film critics (although a few did praise it... including me, lol, when I used to write film reviews for the press). After The Onion Field, it was the second installment of a diptych produced by Joseph Wambaugh based on two of his novels, both directed by Harold Becker and produced by Wambaugh's company Black Marble Productions. Both were good, but I guess Wambaugh did not give a third try for the poor receptions. A pity. Robert Foxworth and Paula Prentiss are wonderful as a pair of detectives who fall in love, while Harry Dean Stanton does his usual best as the "villain". And the music... is very good. Up to Jarre's highest standard. I hope you enjoyed it... eight years ago, when you posted this? |
