What I’m Enjoying This Week
36 Hours - The Traveling Executioner - The Ballad Of Cable Hogue
Minor format change.
Each week the shelves are stocked with new stuff to play. Every new movie fosters an album, sometimes multiple song albums, score albums. We see reissues from major labels, boutique labels. There are brand new re-recordings, re-mastered old recordings, multiple scores on one CD, compilations, whatnot. This says nothing of the multitude of imports, promotional stuff, audition demos for evaluation, you name it. Like DVD, new CD releases flood the marketplace non-stop. Rich fans with holes in their pockets pick what they want, normal people pick titles with prejudice, still others just have to sit by the tracks and watch the trains go by.
I usually select something, maybe recent, maybe at random, share what appeals. That was then, this is now. CDs (like DVDs) are getting longer. Bonus tracks, complete scores, every bloody note. Not so much good listens as archival artifacts. Souvenirs, encyclopedias of music, movies. The only things not getting longer are the number of hours in a day one has to keep up with the stuff.
With so much coming out and me easy to please, I’m throwing in the towel. Fwwaapp!
I think I’ll just spotlight stuff in brief. Turn up the lights on something, babble, move on. I’ll wade through what I’ve got time to wade through, point a finger at CDs for your “pick with prejudiceâ€
